Boxscore CHESTER, Pa. – Four players scored in double figures and 11 found the points column overall as the Widener University men's basketball team opened its Tip-Off Tournament for Autism Awareness with an 80-51 victory against Penn State Berks on Friday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Tyler Drews led the Pride with 15 points in the game, the only starter with more than eight.
- Three freshmen each turned in career-highs off the bench. Pat Holden scored 14, Kenny Lewis netted 12 and AJ Sawyers posted 11.
- Jalen Howard led the Blue and Gold with five rebounds while Donovan Simon had a career-high four assists.
- Widener had 20 assists on 31 baskets. WU also forced 22 turnovers while committing just 10.
FIRST HALF NOTES
- The Pride got the jump early as after the Nittany Lions scored the first bucket of the game, Widener went on a 13-2 run to take a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
- Widener continued to extend the lead, eventually going up 40-12 on a jumper by Sawyers at the 6:28 mark.
- PSU Berks chipped away, scoring nine of the final 11 points in the half.
SECOND HALF NOTES
- WU maintained its halftime margin for the majority of the second half before pulling away late.
- Holden did most of his damage in the final 20 minutes, scoring 10 points.
UP NEXT
The Blue and Gold takes on Gwynedd Mercy in the championship game of the tournament. The Griffins topped Penn State Harrisburg 86-77. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
