@WUWBB Earns Third Straight Victory with Win Against Lions

CHESTER, Pa. – All ten players found the scoring column for the Widener University women's basketball team in a 74-38 victory against the Penn State Brandywine Nittany Lions on Wednesday evening at the Schwartz Center.

Widener held Penn State Brandywine to a slim 38 points which is the lowest point total that The Pride has allowed since they played the Lions in 2012. In addition, all 10 players scored at least one basketball and pulled down no less than two rebounds.

Allison Gallagher netted 13 points in 16 minutes of action for Widener to lead all scorers. She also had four rebounds and one steal. Tatiana Pleasant finished with a career high of 10 points, while Emma Gardy scored nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Devan Rimmer, Madison Ireland, Izzy Hamlin and Mackenzie McCracken all contributed eight points and at least two rebounds. As a team, the Pride shot 40.3 percent (14-of-52) from the floor and a season-best of 75 percent (15-of-20) from the foul line.

Despite a slow first quarter, Widener picked up the pace in the second quarter and went ahead by 10 or more on two occasions. Pleasant connected on a layup with 1:43 on the clock to put Widener ahead 26-16 before Nikki Petri sank all three free throws after being fouled from behind the arc to end the half.

Widener carried over the momentum into the third quarter, outscoring the Lions by 12 points. The lead ballooned up to 21 with a two-point play from Ireland to make it 42-21 with 6:33 on the board. The sophomore then knocked down another basket ahead of the buzzer to give the Pride a 53-29 cushion at the end of the third and more than enough assurance to run away with their third straight victory.
