CHESTER, Pa. (Feb. 1, 2017) – The Widener University women's basketball team fell to Lebanon Valley by a 70-49 score on Wednesday evening at the Schwartz Center.
Widener scored on its opening possession when junior
Nikki Petri (Congers, N.Y.) found
Devan Rimmer (Perkasie, Pa.) through the back door and then built up a 7-2 lead when Rimmer finished a pass from junior
Allison Gallagher (Souderton, Pa.) in transition. Following a Dutchmen timeout, the entire first half remained competitive as neither side led by more than five until Anne Lehr converted twice from the stripe to make it 28-21 in favor of the visitors with 3:21 left in the second quarter. Freshman Anjelica Borja (Somerville, N.J.) would then trim the deficit down to three by canning a trifecta from the corner to make it 30-27, and Widener only trailed by a possession at the break.
The Pride were able to tie the game twice in the third quarter, but Lebanon Valley got a jumper from Becky Evans which broke a 32-32 tie and sparked a 15-0 run. Widener unfortunately was never able to recover from the Dutchmen's scoring streak, which lasted for a span of just over six minutes, and eventually lost for the eighth time in conference play this winter.
Lebanon Valley (10-11, MAC Commonwealth 7-5) was led by Hilary Yoh and Lexie Lantz. Yoh registered a double-double with 26 points and 10 boards, while Lantz added eight points and pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds.
Gallagher and Rimmer paced Widener in the setback by scoring 13 and 12 points, respectively, and grabbing six boards apiece. Gallagher also contributed three steals.
Widener (6-14, MAC Commonwealth 3-8) next visits Stevenson on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 4 p.m.
