GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 19, 2016) – For the second straight year, Ian Gaynor (Donegal, Ireland) of the Widener University men's swimming team earned All-America laurels in the 100-yard freestyle at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday evening.

After being named an All-America honorable mention selection in the 50 free on Wednesday, Gaynor ended the week and his junior season on a high note by tying for fifth in his premier event this evening with a time of 44.78 seconds. The team captain and two-time winner of the David B. Eavenson Award as the Middle Atlantic Conference's top swimmer has now registered four top-16 finishes at the NCAA Championships over the course of his illustrious career.

In addition, Gaynor ended the winter as the program's third swimmer to garner All-America laurels in consecutive seasons and the first to achieve the feat in 30 years. George Richon earned the honor in 1977 and 1978 before Mark Manera had most recently achieved the feat in 1985 and 1986.

Widener's men's swimming program, which won its 13th MAC championship this winter, graduates only two seniors and is slated to return Gaynor and 15 other letterwinners next season.
