HAVERFORD, Pa. (Apr. 7, 2015) – The Widener softball team dropped a 9-1 five-inning non-conference contest to Haverford on Tuesday afternoon at the Class of '95 Field in Havertown, Pa. The second game was called in the fourth inning after a rain delay.
The Fords improve to 14-5 on the season with the win, while the Pride dip to 14-4 overall.
Sophomore pitcher
Ally Horvath (Chalfont, Pa.) got things started in the opening frame with a one-out bunt single to the shortstop. After stealing second and a Pride strikeout, Horvath crossed the plate for the game's first run as senior first baseman
Carissa Harris (Douglassville, Pa.) knocked her in with a single through the right side.
Haverford's offense went to work over the next four innings, scoring two in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth, and two more in the fifth to end the game via the mercy rule.

Heather Forward (Philadelphia, Pa.) notched the Pride's other two hits.
Sara Tauriello (5-1) earned the win in the circle, surrendering the one run on four hits in five innings of work.
Horvath was saddled with the loss, dipping her record to 5-3. She lasted 2.1 innings on the rubber, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks. Senior
Jamie Williams (South River, N.J.) hurled the next two innings of three-hit, four-run, one-walk, two-strikeout ball. Freshman
Lindsey Manera (Mount Laurel, N.J.) tossed the final third of an inning and allowed just one hit.
Widener returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 11, hosting conference-rival Albright for a 1 p.m. twinbill at the Widener Softball Field.
