Baseball Downed by Alvernia in Game One of the Commonwealth Tournament

YORK, Pa. (Apr. 30, 2015) – The Widener baseball team fell in Game One of the Commonwealth Conference Tournament to Alvernia, 4-2 at Santander Stadium on Thursday.
 
The Pride fall to 20-17, while the Crusaders improve to 29-11 on the season.
 
Sophomore Greg McDonough (Ambler, Pa.) opened the scoring with an RBI triple to left center field in the top of the first inning. Designated hitter Michael Rytelewski (Brick, N.J.) scored on the center fielders second triple of the year.
 
McDonough finished the game 1-for-4 with an RBI. He added his 25th stolen base of the season when he stole second in the top of the ninth inning. McDonough would later score in the inning as an unearned run when Justin Healey (Ocean City, N.J.) reached on fielder's choice by the shortstop.
 
Healey notched his first triple of the season in the top of the fourth inning. He would finish 1-for-4 from the plate. Prior to his fourth inning at-bat, the game was delayed for three hours due to the rain.
 
Senior Robert Barth (Norristown, Pa.) started the game on the mound for the Pride and was dealt the loss. The righty allowed three hits, two runs, no walks and fanned five in three innings of work. Barth was pulled from the game after the three hour delay.
 
Widener will be back in action on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in York, Pa. against Messiah as they face elimantion at Santander Stadium.
