Softball Handed Two Setbacks by Lebanon Valley

(Game 1) / (Game 2)

Widener battled against a tough squad in Lebanon Valley, but was handed a pair of Commonwealth Conference home defeats by scores of 10-0 and 5-1.

The opener remained a pitchers' duel until the fourth inning, when the Dutchmen began the scoring with five runs.  Sam Derr led off with an opposite field home run to left center, Jorey Aumiller had a two-run double just inside the left-field line and Angela Harris cracked a two-run long ball.

Derr homered again in the fifth for a 6-0 margin before LVC added four runs in the seventh on two-run homers from Steffani Secola and Aumiller.

Derr struck out seven over seven scoreless innings, yielding just three hits.  Secola had three hits.

Shelby Mackintosh (Lumberton, NJ), fellow senior Kristina Kenney (Philadelphia, PA) and sophomore Carissa Harris (Douglassville, PA) all had a hit for the Pride.  Drexel Hill, PA senior Christine Mattis (2-4) struck out six, but allowed six runs and eight hits over five innings.

LVC (15-3, 6-0 CC) in game two scored twice in the first inning for a 2-0 lead on RBI singles from Secola and Emily Johnson.  The Pride got one back in the bottom of the frame when senior Casey Hargadon (Wallingford, PA) singled and an error by left fielder Jasmine Dutton allowed Harris to cross home.

Harris added an RBI single in the fourth and Allie Hartman clubbed a two-run homer in the fifth for the final.

Senior Colleen Orsborn (Drexel Hill, PA) had two hits and freshman Heather Forward (Philadelphia, PA) added one to give her a hit in eight of her last nine contests for Widener (6-10, 1-7).  Delran, NJ junior Jackie Korang (2-3) gave up five runs and 10 hits over seven innings.

Derr (11-2) was charged with one unearned run and seven hits over seven innings.  She, Secola and Harris all had two hits apiece.

Widener is home Wednesday against Washington (MD), starting at 5:00 pm.
