Widener went head on with first-place Alvernia in Commonwealth Conference play and was handed a pair of losses, 12-4 and 9-0 in Reading, PA.

Alvernia (15-3, 6-0 CC) in game one scored five times in the fourth for a 6-1 lead.  Katie Manowski had a two-run single, Miranda Peto smacked a two-run homer and Amanda Galanti added an RBI triple.

Widener (6-8, 1-5) got back in the contest with three runs in the sixth for a 6-4 contest.  Jamie Williams (South River, NJ) rapped a two-run single and fellow freshman Alie Alkins (Aston, PA) scored on the play thanks to an error from left fielder Rachel Fritz.

But the Crusaders ended things via run rule by plating six runs in the last of the sixth.  Samantha Penk had a two-run double to open the scoring and Manowski ended the contest with an RBI single.

Senior Jen Nance (Lansdowne, PA) had two hits for the Pride.  Delran, NJ junior Jackie Korang (2-2) was charged with six runs and eight hits over 3 2/3 innings.

Penk closed with three of the Crusaders 15 hits.  Brittanie Wolfe (6-3) allowed four runs – three earned – and seven hits over six innings.

Fritz atoned for her error from game one by delivering the key blow in game two, a grand slam in the third inning to provide the home team a 4-0 lead.  Fritz then came back to the plate in the fourth and blasted a two-run homer to give the Crusaders a 9-0 cushion and another run-rule win.

Freshman Heather Forward (Philadelphia, PA) ran her hitting streak to seven games and Alkins rapped a double.  Drexel Hill, PA senior Christine Mattis (2-3) yielded eight runs – seven earned – and seven hits over 3 1/3 innings for the Pride.

Deanna Dungee (9-0) gave up two hits over five scoreless frames.  Fritz, Danielle Kitchen and Briana Coan each had two hits for Alvernia.
