Men's Basketball Stuns First-Place Lycoming, 86-78

(box score)

Junior Rodney Brown (Lake Valley, NJ) scored a career-high 25 points that included 16 in the second half for Widener, which posted an 86-78 Commonwealth Conference win over first-place Lycoming at Schwartz Center.

The Pride built a 40-25 halftime lead by shooting 48 percent (14-of-29) from the field and limiting the Warriors to only 36 percent (11-of-31).  Brown and sophomore Dillon Fields (Medford, NJ) scored nine points apiece with senior Adam Ahern (West Grove, PA) adding eight.

Widener held a 78-64 lead with 2:44 left, but poor foul shooting by the home team allowed Lycoming back into the contest.  Ihsaan Davis hit twice from the stripe for an 82-77 deficit with 33 seconds remaining to end a 13-4 run.

Ahern restored order on two free throws with 31 seconds remaining for an 84-77 contest.  Chris Foreman hit once from the line for the Warriors with 23 seconds left, but Ahern followed suit two seconds later for an 85-78 margin.

Brown went on a tear by hitting 8-of-12 from the floor and 6-of-10 from 3-point range.  His previous high was 17 points against Stevenson on December 8.

Fields poured in 15 points, Ahern scored 13 with juniors Bob Makor (Philadelphia, PA) and Andrew Radomicki (Media, PA) netting 12 apiece for Widener (4-9, 3-3 CC), which shot 52 percent (30-of-58) from the field and overcame going 18-for-32 from the line.

Anthony Martin scored 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting, Davis netted 14 off the bench and Foreman added 12 for the Warriors (11-2, 5-1), who shot 42 percent (27-of-65) overall.

Widener is home Wednesday vs. Alvernia at 8:00 pm, following the women's 6:00 pm contest.
