Women's Indoor Track & Field Hosts DeSales

Widener's women hosted DeSales this morning in a dual indoor meet, but fell short by 12 points—despite finishing first in seven of 13 events—with a final score of 68-56.
 
The dual meet got off to a start with freshman Bailey Heishman (Westminster, MD) finishing second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.13, followed by Brittany Diehl (Havertown, PA) taking the 400-meter dash in 1:02.70—two seconds ahead of any DeSales runner.
 
Taylor Englert (Pottsville, PA) and Ashley Callahan (Clementon, NJ) finished first in 2:36.75 and second in 2:44.48, respectively, in the 800-meter run to give the Pride a combined eight points. By a four-second margin, Erica Trofa (Upper Chichester, PA) finished the one-mile run in 5:56.58—good for first. Falling just short of gold, Kellie Medendorp (Prospect Park, PA) took second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:59.78. Meghan Devine (Lewisburg, PA) paced behind her, finishing in 12:49.41.
 
Widener took first in all three relay events.
 
In the 4x160-meter relay Heishman, along with Jaclyn Miller (Media, PA), Shakeira Fowler (Philadelphia, PA) and Colleen Spiller (Flemington, NJ) finished in 1:32.01—less than a second ahead of DeSales' squad.
 
Diehl, Miller, Fowler and Nicolina Marceca (Dingmans Ferry, PA) finished the 4x400-meter relay in 4:36.61.
 
Trofa, Callahan, Englert and Angelique Matusz (Barnegat, NJ) won the 4x800-meter relay by a spread of 20-seconds, finishing with a time of 10:55.38.
 
Audrey Calkin (Honesdale, PA) took the high jump with a jump of 1.45-meters with Amber Char (Southampton, PA) and Shauna Harris (Mount Holly, NJ) placing second and third in the pole vault with vaults of 2.65 meters and 2.50 meters, respectively. Sharee Halstead (Yeadon, PA) placed second in the shot put with a throw of 10.00 meters.
 
On Thursday, both of Widener's Indoor teams will be traveling to Haverford, PA to take part in the Haverford Tri-Meet, beginning at 4:15 pm.
