Softball Takes Two Big Games at Arcadia

Junior Shelby Mackintosh (Lumberton, NJ) had four RBI in game one and sophomore Jackie Korang (Delran, NJ) tossed a shutout in game two for Widener, which notched huge Commonwealth Conference wins of 8-5 and 3-0 at Arcadia in Glenside, PA.
 
Widener in game one got things going with a three-run first inning, keyed by Mackintosh's two-run single.  Mackintosh then ripped a two-run homer in the second to make it 5-0 and freshman Carissa Harris (Douglassville, PA) added an RBI double in the third for a 7-3 lead.
 
Drexel Hill, PA junior Christine Mattis (6-3) went the distance, yielding five runs – four earned – and eight hits over seven innings.  Mackintosh closed with two hits.
 
Game two saw Korang (8-4) once again on her game for her third shutout of the year.  She permitted just six hits and faced only six batters above the minimum.
 
Widener took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when freshman Taylor Shultz (Parker Ford, PA) lined an RBI double.  Junior Casey Hargadon (Wallingford, PA) ripped a two-run double in the fifth to close the scoring.
 
Hargadon and sophomore Valarie Perretti (Clayton, NJ) each had two hits in the contest.
 
Jessica Wood (7-3) allowed three runs – one earned – and six hits over seven innings for the Knights.  Brandee Zablotsky and Leanda Helms had two hits apiece.
 
Widener (15-9, 4-4 CC) stands fifth in the conference, one game behind Elizabethtown (5-3) for the fourth and final seed in the league tournament.  Arcadia (12-12, 1-5) sits in sixth place.
 
Widener is on the road Monday to visit DeSales for a 3:30 pm doubleheader in Center Valley, PA.
