Softball Splits Two at Immaculata

(Game 1) / (Game 2)

Freshman Carissa Harris (Douglassville, PA) and sophomore Valarie Perretti (Clayton, NJ) each homered in game two for Widener, which notched an 8-6 victory at Immaculata that followed a 4-1 loss.

 
Harris' leadoff homer in the first inning, her second long ball of the season, set the tone for Widener (13-9) as it grabbed a 1-0 lead.
 
The margin grew to 8-0 thanks to a seven-run second inning.  Perretti smacked a two-run shot for her second career homer and junior Colleen Orsborn (Drexel Hill, PA) added a two-run double.
 
The Pride survived a comeback that included Maleaha Himmons, who went 3-for-3 with five RBI, cracking a three-run homer in the second inning.  She added a two-run double in the third.
 
Drexel Hill, PA junior Christine Mattis (5-3) gave up six runs – three earned – and 10 hits over five innings for the Pride.  Harris tossed the last two scoreless innings, yielding just one hit, for the save.
 
Orsborn, Shelby Mackintosh (Lumberton, NJ) and fellow junior Jess Way (Marlton, NJ) each ended with two hits.
 
Danielle Palmisano (1-6) permitted eight runs – three earned and eight hits over 1 2/3 innings for the Mighty Macs.
 
Immaculata (12-12) broke open game one in the bottom of the fourth inning when Holly Schell cracked a three-run homer for a 4-0 lead.
 
Widener got on the board in the fifth when junior Jody Salvatore (Williamstown, NJ) had an RBI groundout that scored sophomore Jackie Korang (Delran, NJ).
 
Korang (7-4) allowed four runs – three earned – and seven hits over five innings for the Pride.
 
Meagan Fitzgerald (7-4) struck out eight over seven innings, yielding one run and four hits.  Schell ended 3-for-3 at the plate.
 
Widener on Thursday once again is on the road as it visits Arcadia for a 3:00 pm doubleheader in Glenside, PA.
