Softball Handed Two Tough Losses at Lebanon Valley

(Game 1) / (Game 2)

Widener permitted two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one at Commonwealth Conference foe Lebanon Valley for a 4-3 loss before a tough 1-0 setback in the finale in Annville, PA.

Widener (10-6, 2-2 CC) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI double from junior Shelby Mackintosh (Lumberton, NJ).  The margin ballooned to 3-0 in the third when junior Jess Way (Marlton, NJ) ripped a two-run single.

LVC (11-8, 2-1) got two runs back in the bottom of the third on a two-run single from Kristen Palmerio.  It then tied the score on a sacrifice fly from Chelsea Detwiler before winning it with a one-out, bases-loaded grounder off the bat of Tessa Deardorff that was misplayed.

Delran, NJ junior Jackie Korang (6-2) was the hard-luck loser and saw her six-game winning streak snapped.  She gave up four runs – three earned – and nine hits over 6 1/3 innings.

Mackintosh ended the contest with two hits.

The Dutchmen got the only run of game one in the fourth, when Allison Hartman cracked her fourth home run of the year.

Palmerio made it stand by striking out three over seven scoreless innings.

Mackintosh and junior Casey Hargadon (Wallingford, PA) each had a hit for the Pride.  Drexel Hill, PA junior Christine Mattis (3-2) was charged with one run and four hits over six innings.

Widener's scheduled doubleheader Monday against Eastern has been postponed and no make-up date was announced.  The squad hits the road Thursday to visit Washington (MD), starting at 3:00 pm.
