Women’s Basketball Drops 61-50 Game At Swarthmore

Widener traveled to Swarthmore tonight to play in a game that goes towards an annual competition between the two schools, “The 320 Challenge”, and came home with a 61-50 loss.

Widener fell short in the first half by 10 points, which made a big difference in the outcome of the game as the score in the second half alone saw the Pride with 31 points and the Garnet with 32.  Swarthmore shot 36 percent (12-of-33) in the first half to Widener's 26 percent (8-of-31).

Senior Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) led the scoring for the Pride (4-2) with 18 points in 36 minutes to go with eight rebounds, one assist, one blocked and one steal.  Seniors Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) and Lil Carney (Narberth, PA) scored nine points apiece. Carney led the team with nine rebounds—four on offense and five on defense—and also had two assists and a steal.  Hejnas gathered three rebounds.

Katie Lytle had 16 points and 12 rebounds, Eliza Polli scored 16 points and Elle Larsen had 11 and 14 rebounds for the Garnet (5-0).

On Wednesday, the squad travels to Reading, PA to take on Albright in its third Commonwealth Conference contest, beginning at 6:00 pm with the men's teams facing off afterwards at approximately 8:00 pm.
