Women's Basketball Rolls to 74-46 Triumph Over Cabrini

Junior Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) scored 12 of her 18 points in the first half, when Widener opened an 18-point halftime lead en route to a 74-46 rout of Cabrini at Schwartz Center.
 
Widener (8-4), which led by as many as 30 points and never trailed, opened the game on a 12-2 run in the first four minutes and was never headed.  Hejnas scored the game's first six points and closed the spurt with eight.
 
Hejnas shot 4-of-6 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line in the half for Widener, which hit 41 percent (14-of-34) from the floor and 11-for-12 from the stripe for a 41-23 lead.  Francesca Lee (Hainesport, NJ) netted eight points in the period and fellow junior Lil Carney (Narberth, PA) added seven.
 
Carney ended with 14 points and eight rebounds with Lee adding 13 points for the Pride, who have won eight of their last 10 contests.  Hejnas finished hitting 7-of-10 from the floor for Widener, which closed shooting 46 percent (28-of-61).
 
Brittany Sandone scored 13 points and Leithie Faison added eight for the Cavaliers (6-5), who shot only 26 percent (6-of-23) in the first half and 28 percent (15-of-53) overall.
 
Widener on Saturday opens a three-game road trip at Penn State Brandywine, beginning at 1:00 pm in Media, PA.
