Widener saw its season come to an end with a pair of Commonwealth Conference losses, 3-2 and 4-1, at Lycoming in Williamsport, PA.
Widener in the first game took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from sophomore Jen Nance (Lansdowne, PA). Lycoming tied it in the second on a run-scoring single by Holly Lansberry.
The Pride grabbed a 2-1 cushion in the fifth when senior Meg Phillips (Aston, PA) blasted a lead-off homer. But the Warriors won it in the seventh, getting an RBI double from Taylor Lesser and a two-out, game-winning single from Janelle Poorman.
Phillips and senior Kelly Vogelgesang (Downingtown, PA) each rapped two hits for Widener. Parker Ford, PA senior Kelsey Shultz (10-11) struck out five to give her 112 for the season and establish a new single-season school record, breaking the previous mark of 111 set by Jen Kowaleuski in 1992.
Brie Braga (3-7) struck out six, permitting two runs and seven hits over seven innings for Lycoming.
Widener in game two took a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Shultz lined an RBI single. But Lycoming plated four in the sixth on just two RBI that included singles from Braga and Abbi Miller for a 4-1 margin.
Miller got two hits and Lansberry (10-6) gave up one run and seven hits over seven innings with four strikeouts for the Warriors (14-14, 8-6 CC). Miller closed with two hits.
Philadelphia, PA sophomore Liz Carpino (4-6) allowed four runs – three earned – and six hits over 5 1/3 innings for the Pride (14-20, 4-10). Nance ended with two hits.
