Kelsey Shultz' 16 Strikeouts Lift Softball to Doubleheader Split

Senior Kelsey Shultz (Parker Ford, PA) notched a career-best 16 strikeouts for Widener in a 6-0 victory over Northwestern (MN) before the team's 8-0 loss to No. 22 Adrian in Clermont, FL.

Shultz (2-2) had a day by yielding one run and three hits with two walks over seven innings. Her strikeouts bested her previous high of 10 against Eastern on March 31, 2009.

Jody Salvatore (Williamstown, NJ) rapped two hits, fellow sophomore Jen Nance (Lansdowne, PA) had two RBI and senior Kelly Vogelgesang (Downingtown, PA) brought one home on a squeeze play.

Against Adrian, sophomore Liz Carpino (Philadelphia, PA) was charged with four earned runs and seven hits over four innings with no walks for the Pride (2-6).

Widener on Wednesday plays its home opener against Washington (MD), beginning at 4:00 pm.
