Junior Jack Brennan (Stratford, NJ) scored six of his team-high 20 points in the second overtime for Widener, which came out like gangbusters in the period and clinched a berth in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament with a 93-83 triumph over Lycoming at Schwartz Center.
Brennan canned two free throws 14 seconds in the second overtime and then hit a layup 28 seconds later for an 82-78 Widener lead. Kevin Anthony made 1-of-2 from the stripe for the Warriors with 3:06 remaining for an 82-79 game.
But freshman Andrew Radomicki (Media, PA) came right back with a layup with 2:45 to go for an 84-79 cushion. McDevitt added a free throw, Brennan had an emphatic dunk and Radomicki hit two free throws, capping an 11-1 Widener run to open the period for an 89-79 game with 69 seconds left.
Widener in the first extra period had the lead late, but Will Kelly hit two free throws with 0.9 seconds left for a 78-78 tie.
Brennan shot 7-of-9 from the floor for the Pride, who hit 48 percent (29-of-61) overall from the field that included 4-of-7 in the extra periods. Junior Perry Wright (Severn, MD) scored 17 points, freshman Bob Makor (Philadelphia, PA) netted 16, Radomicki had 13 and senior Chris McDevitt (Doylestown, PA) poured in 11 for Widener.
Kelly scored 27 points on 7-of-18 shooting, Ihsaan Davis netted 15 with Mike Bradley and Sebastian Sabella adding 10 apiece for the Warriors, who shot 40 percent (28-of-70) from the floor.
Widener (13-12, 8-6 CC) earns third place outright and will face second-seeded Lebanon Valley in the conference semifinals on Wednesday, beginning at 8:00 pm in Annville, PA. The Pride made their return to the league tournament after a one-year hiatus, which followed four straight trips.
