Women's Basketball Falls, 82-75, at King's

Widener looked to get above the .500 mark, but was dealt an 82-75 loss at King's in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
 
Down 58-49 with 11:50 left, Widener (2-3) used a 12-3 run to close to a 61-61 tie.  Sophomore Joanna Persiano (Absecon, NJ) scored five points in that span and junior Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) added four.
 
The Lady Monarchs (4-1) built a 74-69 lead before senior Lindsay Pepino (Oceanside, NY) hit a layup with 2:19 remaining to bring the Pride within three.  But King's came right back as Katlin Michaels' layup gave her squad a 76-71 lead with 2:14 left.
 
Lindsay Atchison canned two free throws with 1:24 left as King's grabbed a 78-71 cushion.  Persiano nailed two free throws with 46 seconds remaining to bring Widener within 79-73, but Michaels hit 1-of-2 from the line one second later for an 80-73 cushion.
 
Dellinger finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds for her second double-double in the last three games.  Persiano scored 17 points and junior Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) poured in 13 for the Pride.
 
Atchison could not be stopped, ending with 25 points on 7-of-12 shooting with three 3-pointers.  Paige Carlin netted 15 points, Michaels scored 11 and Samantha Simcox grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lady Monarchs.
 
Widener on Wednesday hosts Alvernia as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 6:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 8:00 pm.
