Widener rolled to a 7-1 victory in the opener with DeSales before suffering a 6-5 loss in the nightcap in Chester, PA.
 
Widener (16-8) in game one plated five runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 5-0 cushion.  Senior Steph Connolly (Aston, PA) roped a two-run single, freshman Shelby Mackintosh (Lumberton, NJ) had an RBI single and senior Jamie Schmucker (Holmes, PA) followed with a two-run double.
 
Kim Dougherty (Belle Mead, NJ) notched an RBI single in the fourth for a 6-1 game and fellow senior Caitlin Callahan (Franklin Square, NY) added a run-scoring groundout in the sixth.
 
The offense was enough for Dougherty (4-4), who yielded one run and seven hits over seven innings with five strikeouts.  Junior Meg Phillips (Aston, PA) had three hits and Schmucker added two.
 
Katie Morrissey (5-6) was charged with five runs and five hits over 2 2/3 innings for DeSales.  Kerri Andrews rapped two hits.
 
Widener in game two plated three runs in the third for a 4-2 lead.  Junior Kelsey Shultz (Parker Ford, PA) lined an RBI single that plated two runs thanks to an error from right fielder Kristen Cybularz.  Mackintosh later in the frame lofted a blast that hit the top of the left-field fence for a run-scoring single.
 
But the Bulldogs (12-10) rallied for four runs in the sixth and a 6-4 lead.  Kate Steiner, Shelly McCarthy and Brianna Chilcoat all had RBI singles and Andrews ended the rally with a sacrifice fly.
 
Widener got one back in the sixth on Dougherty's RBI single, but went down in order in the seventh.
 
Christine Petrilla (2-1) allowed one unearned run and two hits over three relief innings for DeSales.  Jen Lococo had two hits and two RBI.
 
Shultz (6-4) permitted six runs – five earned – and 11 hits over seven innings.  She and Dougherty had two hits apiece.
 
Widener on Saturday hosts Lycoming for a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
