Freshman Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) notched career highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double, helping Widener clinch a spot in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament with a 75-67 victory over Elizabethtown at Schwartz Center.
The Pride (13-10, 9-3 CC) used a 13-6 run to open a 62-53 lead with 6:14 remaining. Senior Lindsey Isler (New Hope, PA) scored six points in that span and freshman Francesca Lee (Hainesport, NJ) added five.
The Blue Jays (6-15, 2-9) were in it the whole way, getting back-to-back 3-pointers from Nadine Yunginger to move to 66-63 with 2:29 left.
But Widener would prevail, going 9-for-10 from the line in the 2:02 for its fourth straight win. Freshman Lil Carney (Narbeth, PA) went 4-for-4 in that span and sophomore Casey Pritz (Abington, PA), the reigning conference Player of the Week, converted 3-of-4.
Dellinger played one of her finest games, shooting 8-of-16 from the field and hitting three 3-pointers. This went a long way in Widener hitting 41 percent (22-of-54) from the field and owning a 39-32 rebounding edge.
Senior Becky Tyler (Wynnewood, PA) scored 13 points, Isler closed with 11 and six assists, and junior Alex Held (Westminster, MD) netted 10 points.
Courtney Kofeldt had 17 points and six assists, Stephanie Ellwood posted 13 and seven with Kelly Sauerzopf scoring 10 points for the Blue Jays.
Widener is off to the conference tournament a third straight year and for the seventh time in the last eight campaigns. The defending champions hold a 1 1/2 game lead over Alvernia (7-4) for third place.
Widener on Tuesday visits Arcadia for a 6:00 pm start.
