Widener saw an 11-point first-half lead go by the wayside and was dealt a 68-60 loss by Juniata at the McDaniel Tip-Off Tournament in Westminster, MD.
The Pride (2-1) received a balanced attack in opening a 21-10 run just 10 minutes into the game. Francesca Lee (Hainesport, NJ) buried a pair of 3-pointers in the spurt and fellow sophomore Lil Carney (Narberth, PA) netted four points.
But Widener, which rallied from down double figures in its two wins, could not hold such a cushion. The Eagles (2-0) outscored the Pride 38-26 in the second half by shooting 42 percent (13-of-31) from the floor and hitting 11-for-13 from the line.
Carney scored 19 points, Lee had 13 and 10 rebounds with freshman Joanna Persiano (Ventnor, NJ) contributing 10 points for Widener, which shot 37 percent (23-of-62) overall.
Kate McDonald poured in 17 points, Jen Hnatuck netted 14 and Erin McGinley scored 10 for Juniata.
Widener on Saturday faces McDaniel in consolation game, beginning at 1:00 pm.
