Softball Again Gets Great All-Around Play in Sweeping Eastern

Junior Kim Dougherty (Belle Mead, NJ) got the victory in game one and sophomore Kelsey Shultz (Parker Ford, PA) notched a career-best 10 strikeouts in game two for Widener, which posted victories of 4-3 and 5-3 at Eastern in St. Davids, PA.

Dougherty (5-5) has won five of her last seven decisions, today yielding three runs -- two earned -- and nine hits over seven innings with five strikeouts.

The Pride (12-10 scored three times in the top of the fourth inning for a 3-2 lead.  Freshman Erika Pacholski (Haddonfield, NJ) and senior Rachel O'Leary (Coatesville, PA) each scored on an error by first baseman Kate Phelan and sophomore Meg Phillips (Aston, PA) lined an RBI single.

O'Leary lifted a sacrifice fly in the seventh to give Widener at 4-2 cushion.

Kristine Rosko (4-4) took the loss for the Eagles (10-10), surrendering four unearned runs and eight hits over seven innings.

Shultz (6-3) notched her team-best seventh complete game of the year, yielding three runs -- two earned -- and eight hits over seven innings.

Widener in game two again crawled out of a 2-0 hole.  The squad plated three in the second with senior Katie Mitchell (Drexel Hill, PA) getting a run-scoring double and both Shultz and Phillips adding RBI singles.

Junior Caitlin Callahan (Franklin Square, NY) got a two-run single in the seventh for a 5-2 contest.

Maggie McGowan (5-5) took the defeat, allowing five runs -- two earned -- and 10 hits over seven innings.

The Pride are 3-0 against the Eagles this season, including a 5-3 triumph March 6 in Kissimmee, FL.

Widener on Wednesday hosts Washington (MD) as part of "Strike Out Cancer Night," beginning at 5:00 pm.
