Women's Baskteball Rolls to 67-33 Triumph at Arcadia

(boxscore)

Widener pulled away early and never looked back in cruising to a 67-33 Commonwealth Conference victory at Arcadia in Glenside, PA.

Freshman Casey Pritz (Abington, PA) had eight points and seven rebounds in the first half for the Pride (13-7, 4-3 CC), who took a 33-13 lead by holding the Knights to a paltry 13 percent shooting (3-of-24) from the floor.  The home team did not make a basket in the final 9:01 of the half.

Things got even better in the second half for Widener, which shot 50 percent (15-of-30) in the second half and permitted Arcadia (3-17, 0-8) to hit only 35 percent (8-of-23).

Pritz had 12 points and eight rebounds with senior Beth Dessart Mager (Newtown Square, PA) posting 12 and six for the Pride, who shot 39 percent (29-of-75) overall.  Sophomore Laura Carson (Downingtown, PA) contributed 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench, senior Barbara Fleming (Philadelphia, PA) and junior Lindsey Isler (New Hope, PA) scored eight points apiece and junior Becky Tyler (Wynnewood, PA) grabbed eight rebounds.

Caitlin Sparks had 16 points and 12 rebounds with Corrine Geiger grabbing 11 rebounds for the Knights, who shot only 23 percent (11-of-47) from the field and committed 24 turnovers.

Widener is tied for third with Albright in the conference, one game behind Lebanon Valley (5-2) for second.

Widener is home Saturday against Elizabethtown as part of our "Basketball Blowout."  We invite all Widener and PMC alumni to attend the doubleheader, which begins with the women's game at 1:00 pm and ends with the men's contest at 3:00 pm.
