Widener ran into an offensive juggernaut in the second half and was dealt a 91-85 Commonwealth Conference loss by Lycoming at Schwartz Center.
The Warriors (6-1, 1-1 CC) outscored the Pride 61-41 in the second half by shooting 52 percent (15-of-29) from the floor. Eric Anthony scored 20 of his game-high 31 points in the half.
Lycoming, which trailed by 16 early in the second half, used a 23-4 run in just over six minutes for a 66-57 lead with 8:21 left. Will Kelly poured in nine points in the run and ended it with a huge 3-pointer.
Widener (5-2, 1-1) closed to four later in the half, but free throws also were the story as Lycoming shot 32-for-44 overall and 26-for-33 in the second half. Anthony was 13-for-14 from the stripe for the game.
Kelly scored 19 points, Johnathan Williams had 11 and Ishaan Davis contributed 10 for the Warriors, who shot 43 percent (26-of-60) overall and 7-of-15 from 3-point range.
Sophomore BJ Smith (Baltimore, MD) scored 14 points, seniors Jamarr Johnson (Pittsgrove, NJ) and Bobby Edmunds (Linwood, NJ) poured in 13, freshman Adam Ahern (West Grove, PA) netted 12 and sophomore Perry Wright (Severn, MD) added 11 for the Pride.
Widener on Monday hosts Swarthmore as part of the “320 Challenge” at 7:00 pm.
