Men's Swimming Tops Washington (MD) and Women Fall

Widener's men's swimming team notched its fifth straight win with a 112-68 triumph over Washington (MD) and the women were handed a 119-81 setback at Schwartz Center.

 

Junior Jesse Bregman (Oreland, PA) won twice to help the Pride (5-1) remain undefeated against Division III schools.  He captured the 50-yard freestyle in 22.10 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 48.06 seconds.

 

Sophomore Jordan Mulligan (Dingmans Ferry, PA) took the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:35.65, freshman Michael Roth (Columbia, MD) won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.66 and sophomore Joe Deighan (Wyomissing, PA) grabbed the 100-yard butterfly in 55.29 seconds.

 

Freshman Tim Merli (Downingtown, PA) won the 100-yard backstroke in 56.72 seconds, junior Justin Gorbey (Secane, PA) took the 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.67 and freshman Ray Conover (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ) grabbed the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.93.

 

For the women, senior Emma Thrasher (Gettysburg, PA) won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.82 and freshman Kelsey Lake (Ijamsville, MD) captured the 50-yard freestyle in 26.22 seconds.

 

The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team won in 1:46.40 and was comprised of senior Tyla Conicello (West Conshocken, PA), sophomore Carlee Moir (Broomall, PA), and freshmen Kathryn Gavlick (Ashley, PA) and Hayley Conover (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ).

 

Widener does not return to action until January 16 at home against Cabrini, beginning at 1:00 pm.
