Sophomore Casey Pritz (Abington, PA) scored a career-high 26 points for Widener, which rallied from an 11-point, second-half deficit for a 55-48 triumph over Swarthmore at Schwartz Center.
Down 39-28 with 12:07 left, Widener (6-3) made its push later in the half. The Pride went on a 12-0 run spanning four minutes to grab a 46-42 lead with 4:43 remaining. Senior Becky Tyler (Wynnewood, PA) and freshman Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) netted four points apiece in that span.
Ceylan Bodur made a layup with 2:48 left to bring the Garnet within 50-48. But Pritz sealed the game on a pair of layups, the last with 50 seconds left for a 54-48 margin.
Pritz shot 12-of-19 from the floor over 27 minutes and bested her previous high of 24 points set against Albright on January 7, 2009.
Tyler poured in 14 points for Widener, which shot 50 percent (13-of-26) from the field in the second half and 47 percent (22-of-47) overall.
Kathryn Stockbower had 11 points and 13 rebounds with Bodur scoring 11 points for Swarthmore (2-6), which shot only 5-of-12 from 3-point range and 5-for-14 from the line.
The win moves Widener to a 5-5 tie with Swarthmore in the “320 Challenge,” the inaugural series pitting the schools in their 19 shared sports.
Widener next Friday visits Rowan for a 6:00 pm tip-off in Glassboro, NJ.
