4/23/08 -- Sophomore Steph Connolly (Aston, PA) hit a three-run homer in her hometown and senior Mallory Meyer (Lansdowne, PA) pitched great as Widener completed a doubleheader sweep of Neumann, 6-3 and 9-0 in Aston, PA.

Widener (28-10) in game one got two hits and two RBI from junior Stephanie Caulford (Vineland, NJ). Meyer, junior Trina Menta (Broomall, PA) and sophomore Caitlin Callahan (Franklin Square, NY) also had two hits.

Parker Ford, PA freshman Kelsey Shultz (7-2) posted her fourth straight win, striking out two over four innings.

Connolly's long ball was her fifth of the year, aiding the Pride during a seven-run sixth inning to close the scoring for the team's ninth mercy-rule win this season. Meyer and junior Rachel O'Leary (Coatesville, PA) each had two-run singles in the frame.

Meyer (11-6) moved one victory shy of her single-season best with a season-high eight strikeouts over five innings.

Widener on Saturday hosts Messiah in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader, beginning at 1:00 pm. The Pride (7-1) are tied with Lebanon Valley for first place in the league and either will be the number one or two seed in next week's conference tournament.
