3/30/08 -- Sophomore Steph Connolly (Aston, PA) drove home nine runs, including a career-best seven in game one, and totaled three home runs as Widener swept a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Lycoming by scores of 12-2 and 7-1 in Williamsport, PA.
Widener (13-7, 2-0 CC) in game one scored all the runs it would need in the first inning. Connolly stepped to the plate with two outs and blasted a three-run homer for a 3-0 lead.
Sophomore Caitlin Callahan (Franklin Square, NY) in the second inning launched her first home run of the season, a two-run shot, and freshman Krista Cesarine (Ridley Park, PA) followed with a long ball for a 6-0 margin.
Cesarine in the fourth inning made it 8-0 for the Pride with her second homer of the season, another two-run shot. Connolly ended her monster game by ripping a grand slam in the seventh for the final margin.
Lansdowne, PA senior Mallory Meyer (6-3) notched her fifth straight victory, permitting two runs and two hits over six innings. Connolly, Cesarine and junior Rachel O'Leary (Coatesville, PA) each had three hits.
Nicole Rhodes was charged with 12 runs and 16 hits over seven innings for the Lady Warriors (1-7, 0-2).
The Pride broke open game two with a six-run sixth inning for a 7-0 lead. Connolly launched a two-run homer for her fourth long ball of the year and Cesarine added a two-run single.
Belle Mead, NJ sophomore Kim Dougherty (4-2) again pitched solidly, yielding just one run and five hits over seven innings. Meyer ended with three hits.
Cesarine had a hit in game two to extend her hitting streak to eight games, four shy of her career best.
Jessica Nabholz allowed four runs and five hits over five innings for Lycoming.
The victories move 27th-year coach Fred Dohrmann just five shy of 400 career. Already the program's winningest coach and the school's winningest active coach, Dohrmann owns a 395-359 record.
Widener invites everyone to help “Strike Out Cancer” during its home doubleheader Tuesday against Eastern at 5:00 pm. Fans are asked to wear pink to support the cause and donations will be collected for the American Cancer Society.
