3/12/08 -- Widener received strong pitching from sophomore
Kim Dougherty (Belle Mead, NJ) and freshman
Kelsey Shultz (Parker Ford, PA) in a doubleheader sweep, 4-2 and 9-3, of Cabrini.
Dougherty (3-1) in game one was perfect over the first 3 2/3 innings. She notched her second straight victory by striking out eight and yielding two runs – one earned – and three hits over seven innings.
Sophomore
Steph Connolly (Aston, PA) closed with three RBI, including a two-run single in the third inning that put the Pride (7-5) ahead for good at 2-0. She and junior
Stephanie Caulford (Vineland, NJ) each ended with two hits.
Rachel Davis (0-3) allowed four runs – three earned – and eight hits over six innings with three strikeouts for Cabrini (1-8).
Shultz (2-1) after allowing the first two base runners to reach on a walk and an error in game two, retired 15 straight batters before being replaced. She permitted one unearned run and five hits over five innings with four strikeouts and one walk.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Kohan (Downingtown, PA) and senior
Mallory Meyer (Lansdowne, PA) each rapped two-run homers during a four-run fourth inning, helping Widener open a 5-1 lead. Caulford, Connolly and Shultz ended with two hits apiece.
Cheri Johns (1-2) was charged with five runs and seven hits over four innings for the Cavaliers.
Widener on Saturday hosts former Commonwealth Conference foe Juniata, beginning at 1:00 pm.
