2/5/08 -- Widener ran into a red-hot shooting Elizabethtown squad in an 86-64 Commonwealth Conference road loss.
The Blue Jays (10-10, 1-4 CC) opened a 40-25 halftime lead by shooting 67 percent (14-of-21) from the field. The Pride (9-11, 1-4) were held to only 30 percent (9-of-30) and 1-of-7 from 3-point range.
Widener opened the second half on a 9-3 run for a 43-34 deficit with 18:16 remaining. Sophomore Rayne Reber (Pottstown, PA), Beth Dessart Mager (Newtown Square, PA) and fellow junior Megan Sipple (Boothwyn, PA) each nailed 3-pointers.
Freshman Alex Held (Westminster, MD) hit a layup with 15:12 left as the Pride moved to 50-40. But the Blue Jays used a 12-2 run for a 62-42 lead with 13 minutes remaining, thanks to six points from Courtney Kofeldt.
Sipple ended with 13 points, eight steals and five rebounds for the Pride, who shot 33 percent (23-of-69) from the field. Reber and junior Barbara Fleming (Philadelphia, PA) netted 12 points apiece with Dessart Mager adding 10.
Erin Walton poured in 28 points and Jenn Montague contributed 19 and nine rebounds for the Blue Jays, who shot 64 percent (28-of-44) overall.
Widener on Saturday visits Lycoming as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The women's game begins at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 3:00 pm.
