Women's Basketball Upended, 76-50, at Albright

2/19/08 -- Widener fell into a fourth-place tie in the Commonwealth Conference with a 76-50 loss at Albright in Reading, PA.

Widener (10-14, 2-7 CC) is tied with Elizabethtown as the two play each other at Schwartz Center on Saturday in the regular-season finale. The winner is the fourth seed in the conference tournament and plays fifth-ranked Messiah in the semifinals.

Game time Saturday is 1:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 3:00 pm.

Albright (20-4, 8-1) gained control with a 40-22 halftime lead, shooting 45 percent (14-of-31) from the field and holding Widener to just 25 percent (7-of-28). Jacqueline Hardwick had 10 points and six rebounds in the half with Jessica McGinness adding nine points.

Hardwick ended with 17 points and 11 rebounds as the Lady Lions shot 45 percent (27-of-60) overall. McGinness closed with 15 points and Jennifer DuPrau contributed nine and nine rebounds off the bench.

Junior Barbara Fleming (Philadelphia, PA) had 15 points and freshman Laura Carson added 10, also off the bench, for the Pride. Widener shot only 26 percent (17-of-66) from the field and 3-of-13 from 3-point range.
