Women's Basketball on Cruise Control Again, 84-63 Over York (NY)

Freshman Casey Pritz (Abington, PA) had a season-best 18 points and 12 rebounds with junior Becky Tyler (Wynnewood, PA) keying the decisive run for Widener, 84-63 victors over York (NY) at the Optimist Classic in Salisbury, MD.
 
Widener (4-3) scored 15 straight points and kept York (0-5) off the scoreboard for nearly seven minutes, grabbing a 42-22 lead with 1:11 remaining in the first half. Tyler poured in nine points in that span, hitting 3-of-5 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the line.
 
Tyler ended the first half with 11 points for the Pride, who shot 43 percent (16-of-37) from the field for their third straight win and held the Cardinals to only 24 percent (7-of-29).
 
Pritz notched her second double-double, shooting 7-of-15 from the floor and grabbing eight offensive rebounds over just 20 minutes. This went a long way in Widener closing with a season-best 64 rebounds to York's 42, including 29-19 on the offensive boards.
 
Junior Rayne Reber (Pottstown, PA) poured in a season-high 15 points and senior Beth Dessart Mager (Newtown Square, PA) closed with 13 and seven rebounds. Dessart Mager was named to the all-tournament team, ending with 29 points and 11 rebounds over two games.
 
Senior Barbara Fleming (Philadelphia, PA) and sophomore Kylie Walton (Columbus, NJ) netted eight points apiece for the Pride.
 
Maimouna Dabo scored 23 points with Justina Boatwright adding 16 and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals, who shot only 31 percent (22-of-71) from the field and 52 percent (13-for-25) from the line.
 
This marks the sixth time in seven years Widener has gone undefeated in a tournament.
 
Widener on Tuesday opens a six-game homestand as it faces Rosemont, beginning at 7:00 pm.
