Widener saw four of its players score in double figures for a season-opening 74-65 victory over Juniata at Schwartz Center.
The Pride (1-0) took control with a 9-2 run to open a 51-41 lead with 8:48 remaining. Senior Barbara Fleming (Philadelphia, PA) hit five points in that span, capping it on a 3-pointer.
Freshman Casey Pritz (Abington, PA) scored 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting in her collegiate debut for the Pride, who shot 58 percent (15-of-26) from the field in the second half and led 63-50 with four minutes remaining.
Senior Megan Sipple (Boothwyn, PA) poured in 12 points, Becky Tyler (Wynnewood, PA) had 11 and nine rebounds, and fellow junior Rayne Reber (Pottstown, PA) poured in 11 for Widener.
Fleming and senior Beth Dessart Mager (Newtown Square, PA) scored nine points apiece.
Jenny Cunningham netted 15 points and Claudia McDowell scored 13 for the Eagles (0-2), who shot 44 percent (25-of-57) overall but were a mere 1-of-8 from 3-point range.
Widener on Saturday competes at the Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament against the host school at 6:00 pm in Waltham, MA.
