1/22/08 -- Sophomore Becky Tyler (Wynnewood, PA) had 15 points and 12 rebounds, but Widener came up short in a 69-56 Commonwealth Conference loss to Albright at Schwartz Center.
Widener (8-8, 0-1 CC), which scored the game's first 10 points, netted seven straight points to close to 63-56 with 2:41 remaining. Junior Megan Sipple (Boothwyn, PA) scored five points in that span, including a 3-pointer to cap it.
But that would be the Pride's final points as the Lady Lions (13-3, 1-0 CC) netted six straight. Mallory Olsheski converted a three-point play with 2:07 remaining and Bre Dillon had three points of her own, all on free throws.
Jessica McGinness led a balanced attack for Albright with 14 points, and Dillon, Annie McMahon and Jacqueline Hardwick each poured in nine. Rory Yerkes contributed seven points to help the Lady Lions' bench own a 26-3 advantage.
Hardwick grabbed seven rebounds and Charlotte Ciccone had seven assists with four steals for Albright, which shot 44 percent (24-of-54) from the floor.
Tyler shot 6-of-10 from the floor over 33 minutes for her third straight double-double and fourth this season. Sipple and junior Barbara Fleming (Philadelphia, PA) netted 14 points apiece for the Pride, who shot 36 percent (19-of-53) overall and 3-of-18 from 3-point range.
Widener is home Saturday against Lycoming at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's game between the same schools at 3:00 pm.
