(boxscore)

12/1/07 -- Sophomore Rayne Reber (Pottstown, PA) scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Widener, which hung tough against 23rd-ranked Scranton before a 68-48 loss.

Widener (2-3) jumped to a 10-3 lead in the first three minutes thanks to three points apiece from Reber and junior Barbara Fleming (Philadelphia, PA). The Pride only were down 36-34 at halftime thanks to shooting 46 percent (11-of-24) from the field and 5-of-9 from 3-point range.

But the Lady Royals took advantage of a decided edge on the foul line in the second half to outscore the Pride, 32-14. Scranton (3-1) shot 14-for-20 from the stripe in that span and Widener only was 2-for-2.

Widener's defense held Scranton to just 30 percent shooting (9-of-30) in the second half, but the visitors made just 26 percent (6-of-23) and were 0-of-7 from beyond the arc.

Megan Sipple (Boothwyn, PA) scored 11 points and fellow junior Beth Dessart Mager (Newtown Square, PA) added 10 for the Pride, who shot 36 percent (17-of-47) overall.

Stephanie Remington and Julie Brophy poured in 13 points apiece and Kathleen Daly added 11 for Scranton, which shot only 37 percent (23-of-62) from the field but owned a 43-31 rebounding edge. That included a 16-5 edge on the offensive boards.

Widener on Tuesday hosts Delaware Valley, beginning at 7:00 pm at Schwartz Center.
