  • Title
Assistant T&F/XC Coach - Head Throws

Nick Price is in his 11th season an assistant coach for Widener's track & field team.

Price in 2014 was named the USTFCCCA Men's Indoor and Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year.  The winter saw Tyler Williams gain All-America status in the weight throw with Erica Szpynda, Eric Solomon and Mike Recla also qualifying.  The spring saw Williams finish second in the hammer throw and Szpynda gain her All-America honor by closing fifth in the shot put.

His expertise also paid dividends in 2012-13.  Solomon that winter was crowned an All-America in the indoor weight throw by closing eighth, one week after he won the ECAC championship.  Szpynda in the spring was ninth in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.  Williams also made the NCAA Outdoor Championships last spring, closing 11th in the hammer throw.

Solomon has won two Middle Atlantic Conference indoor weight throw championships and Szpynda has six MAC titles to her name.  If that was not enough, Williams the last two years has been tabbed MAC Men’s Outdoor Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.

Price also can count four-time All-America and current assistant coach Lauren Lucci as one of his most pre-eminent pupils.  Lucci’s most memorable performance came in 2008, when she won the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to become Widener’s first women’s individual national champion.  Also on the women’s side he played a huge role to guiding Nikita Halteman, who was a seven-time MAC Champion and the league’s 2010 Outdoor Women’s Field Athlete of the Year.

Price was a three-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honoree in the shot put for Edinboro University.  He also was a national provisional qualifier and ranked 24th in the country in Division II.

He has twice qualified for the USA Indoor National Championships.  He closed 11th in 2009 and 13th in 2010, competing for Shore Athletic Club.

Price graduated Edinboro in 2005 with a degree in Chemistry Education and a Minor in Math.  He also is a high school chemistry teacher.
