CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Women's Soccer opened the home portion of its schedule with a 1-0 victory over King's on Friday evening at the newly renovated Elizabeth J. Hirshmann Field.
The Pride improve to 2-0-0 on the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Widener controlled the offensive attack, outshooting King's 16-2 and holding a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener came out attacking in its first home game of the season, recording four shots in the opening eight minutes. Charlotte Burke and Erin Quinn opened the scoring chances before Gomez and Fisher each added attempts, with Fisher forcing King's goalkeeper Kelsey Sorensen into a save in the eighth minute. The Pride continued to control possession and generate opportunities throughout the half, earning three corner kicks and adding shots from Avery Drumbore, Isabella Losada and Lauren Carter. Despite the sustained pressure, King's defense kept the game scoreless heading into halftime.
- The Pride continued its offensive pressure after the break, earning three corner kicks in the first nine minutes. Burke nearly put Widener ahead in the 49th minute when her shot hit the top woodwork, while Fisher continued to threaten with another shot saved by Sorensen in the 55th minute. Fisher then came inches away from breaking the deadlock again in the 62nd minute, hitting the right woodwork. Just over four minutes later, the Pride finally found the breakthrough. Gomez connected with Fisher at 66:52, and Fisher finished the opportunity to give Widener a 1-0 lead. King's managed just two shots all evening, with neither finding the target, as Price and the Pride defense preserved the shutout through the final whistle.
