Men's Soccer Battles to a Draw Against Washington College

CHESTER, Pa. - Widener Men's Soccer would have to settle for a draw against Washington College (Md.), the final score reading 1-1 after 90 minutes of play at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium

The draw moved the Pride's record to 0-1-1 on the season.  

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Widener out paced the Shoremen in shots, with Widener taking 12 shots to Washington College's nine. Both teams put three shots on target.

  • Will Cole scored the lone goal, the first goal of the season for the Pride.

  • Tristian Willey made two saves in net.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Washington College took control of the game early on. After a Samuel Knauf shot was saved, Simone Perin collected the rebound and hammered the ball into the back of the net. Widener couldn't come up with an equalizer in the half despite putting two shots on goal.
  • The Pride came roaring out of the locker room in the second half as a beautiful leading pass from Michael Panno to Cole set Cole up perfectly to deliver the ball in the back of the net, tying the game up at one apiece. Both teams would battle the rest of the half, its physicality showing in the score sheet as a combined four yellow cards were handed out. Widener's best chance to take the lead came in the 74th minute when a Jackson Held shot clipped on the top left crossbar, keeping the game at 1-1. Ultimately, no one could score and the match would finish a 1-1 draw.

UP NEXT

Widener will have a quick turnaround, playing tomorrow night against Regent University. The game is slated to start at 7:00 p.m. and will be played at Quick Stadium.
