CHESTER, Pa. - Widener Men's Soccer played through a steady downpour and overcame wet field conditions to take home a 3-0 win against Misericordia at Quick Stadium.
With the win, Widener improves it's record to 5-2-1.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Widener took 19 shots to Misericordia's 10. Each team put five shots on target.
- Michael Panno, Gage Meckley and Nick Polidoro each scored a first half goal.
- Tristan Willey made five saves in net for the Pride. The senior also added his fourth clean sheet of the season to his resume.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener wasted little time getting on the board. Will Cole fed a pass to Panno just inside the 18-yard box when Panno proceeded to smash the ball into the back of the net at the 14:21 minute mark. Later in the 37th minute, Meckley took a free kick almost 30 yards out and put the ball in the top right corner, doubling the Widener lead and also making it Meckley's second goal of the season. Just two minutes later, Polidoro was able to chase down the ball after it slipped out of the Misercordia keeper's hands and score on a wide open net, giving the Pride a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. The goal marked Polidoro's first collegiate score.Â
- Neither team would score in the second half as the rain picked up in intensity. Willey made two saves in the half and the Pride staved off a late Cougar effort to seal the 3-0 shutout win.
