CHESTER, Pa. — Women's Volleyball battled throughout Wednesday night's Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth matchup against Hood College, but the Pride ultimately fell to the Blazers, 3-0.
The Pride move to 1-10 overall and 1-1 in MAC Commonwealth play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener opened the match with a service ace from Campbell Chronister, but Hood quickly built a 4-1 advantage. The Pride battled back to even the set before the Blazers regained control. Widener remained within striking distance throughout the middle portion of the set, including a stretch where the Pride took the lead, but Hood answered with a late run to pull away and take the opening set, 25-19.
- The Pride grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the second set before Hood responded with four straight points. Widener battled back to tie the set at 6-6 and stayed within one point at 10-9. Hood then created separation, using a run to build a 20-11 advantage. Widener refused to go away, scoring five points to cut the deficit to 22-16, highlighted by a pair of service aces from Airyn Zimmerman. Hood, however, closed out the set, 25-16, to take a 2-0 match lead.
- The third set featured the Pride's strongest push of the night. Widener jumped out to a 6-3 lead behind an early service ace from Rachel Towers and a kill from Sophia Schultz. Hood answered, but the Pride continued to battle and remained within reach. The set was tied at 14-14 before Widener moved ahead, 16-14, and later extended its advantage to 19-16. Hood responded with four points to tie it at 20-20, setting up a tight finish. The teams traded points down the stretch, but Hood ultimately closed out the set, 25-22, to complete the three-set sweep.
UP NEXT
The Pride will travel to Swarthmore, Pa., on Friday, September 25, and Saturday, September 26, to compete in a tournament. Widener will open tournament play against DeSales on Friday at 4 p.m.
