SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Women's Volleyball opened its weekend at the Swarthmore Invitational Friday afternoon, falling to DeSales University, 3-0.
The Pride move to 1-11 and remain 1-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- DeSales controlled the opening set from the start, building an early advantage and continuing to create separation as the frame progressed. The Pride battled to stay within reach, with Sophia Schultz providing several kills throughout the set, but DeSales ultimately pulled away to take the opening frame, 25-13.
- The second set was more competitive early, with Widener staying within striking distance as the two teams traded points. The Pride continued to battle as DeSales began to build its advantage, but Widener was unable to close the gap late. DeSales finished off the set, 25-17, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
- Widener came out strong in the third set, taking an early 4-2 lead before DeSales answered. Widener remained within striking distance through the middle of the set, trailing 15-14, but DeSales gradually created more separation. The Pride continued to fight late, with a Gabriella Bottino service ace helping cut the deficit to 21-18, but DeSales closed the set, 25-21, to complete the 3-0 sweep.

The Pride return to Swarthmore, Pa., on Saturday, September 26, for two more matches in the Swarthmore Invitational. Widener takes on host Swarthmore at 11 a.m. before facing Salisbury at 6:30 p.m.
