NEWTOWN, Pa. - Widener Football defensive back Luke Shaeffer was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the week of Sept. 14, 2026 to Sept. 20, 2026.

The senior hauled in two interceptions, including a 40-yard pick-six and also forced a fumble, a tackle for loss and intercepted the potential game-tying two-point conversion attempt in the final seconds of the Pride's 17-15 win over FDU-Florham. 

Shaeffer leads the team with four interceptions and Saturday's performance also marks the second time this season he has has recorded a two-interception game. The senior's performance helped improved Widener's record to 2-1 (2-0 MAC).

Up next, the Pride will travel to King's College on Saturday, Sept. 26. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m.
