CHESTER, Pa. - Widener Field Hockey fell to Swarthmore by a final score of 5-0 at Edith R. Dixon Field.
With the loss, the Pride's record moves to 2-3 on the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Widener took 10 shots while Swarthmore had 21 shots. The Pride put seven on target while Swarthmore had 14 on goal.
- Swarthmore had nine penalty corners to Widener's one.
- Emma Korenthal had seven saves in goal for the Pride.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team could put a goal on the board in the first period despite a combined eight shots being taken. The Garnet scored with a little over 10 minutes to go in the second period to take a 1-0 lead but strong defensive play from both teams ensured the score would remain 1-0 heading into halftime.
- Swarthmore doubled their lead halfway into the third period before the Garnets' Libby Castle made the score 3-0 with 30 seconds to go in the frame. Castle would get her second goal of the game in the beginning of the fourth quarter before a final Swarthmore goal with 4:39 to play wrapped up the 5-0 win for the Garnet.
UP NEXT
Widener will face Stockton at Dixon Field on Tuesday, Sept. 22 in the second game of a five game homestand for the Pride. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
