Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Blanks Emerson in 2-0 Win

BOSTON, MASS. - Widener Men's Soccer used a strong defensive effort to knock off Emerson College by a final score of 2-0 at Rotch Field.
   
With the win, Widener moves to 3-1-1 on the season. The Pride have also won three straight games, shutting out the opponent in all three matches.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Widener took 14 shots while Emerson took 10 shots. The Pride had eight shots on net while Emerson put three shots on goal.

  • Jordi Lopez scored his second goal of the year while Gage Meckley scored his first goal of the season.

  • Tristan Willey made three saves in goal. Willey also recorded his third clean sheet of the year.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Pride struck first with Lopez scoring off a pass from Willey in the 23rd minute. Neither team was able to produce a shot on target the rest of the half and the game would head into the second period with Widener leading 1-0.

  • Widener doubled their lead in the 77th minute, courtesy of Meckley. Willey made all three of his saves in the second half and the game would end with the Pride on top, the final score reading 2-0.

 

UP NEXT

Widener returns home on Saturday, Sept. 19 to take on Goucher at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium. The match is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
