SWARTHMORE, Pa. -Â Widener Men's Soccer used a
Max Hartke goal and strong defense to take home a 1-0 win over Swarthmore at Clothier Field.
With the win, Widener improves their record to 2-1-1 on the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Widener took seven shots to Swarthmore's 10. The Pride put three on target while Swarthmore had four shots on goal.
- The game featured physical play throughout with a combined six yellow cards handed out.
- Hartke recorded his first goal of the season.
- Tristan Willey made four saves in net for the Pride, posting his second clean sheet of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams started off slow with each team taking one shot during the first half of play. Play picked up in the second half when Ricky Banuelos Venegas took a shot that was saved by the Swarthmore keeper. Hartke broke through for the Pride in the 69th minute, scoring off a free kick to give Widener a crucial goal and 1-0 lead. The Pride hunkered down from there, Willey making two saves in the final 25 minutes to finish off the 1-0 shutout victory

Widener will travel to Boston, Mass. to take on Emerson College on Saturday, Sept. 12. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
