Mantz and Nye Named PhillySIDA Academic All-Area

PHILADELPHIA - Jessica Mantz of women's lacrosse and Gabby Nye of women's track and field were garnered PhillySIDA Academic All-Area.

This winter and spring, Widener earned two spots on the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team. Jessica Mantz earned her spot for the first time in her career while Nye returns as a familiar face. 

To be eligible for the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team, the individual must hold a 3.30 in their respective sport (3.00 for football) and hold significant statistics throughout the season.

Women's Lacrosse

Jessica Mantz wrapped up her year with a MAC Commonwealth Second Team All-Conference recognition after leading the Pride offense with 51 goals and four assists for 55 points across 18 starts. The Center Valley, Pa. native also took home her first CSC Academic All-District award. Mantz added 13 free-position goals and three game-winning goals while also contributing 34 draw controls and 19 ground balls. She posted a six-point performance against Misericordia and a five-goal outing in a win over Albright. Mantz was a consistent scoring threat throughout the season and closed her senior campaign as one of Widener's top offensive contributors.

Women's Track & Field

Gabby Nye's collegiate career came to a close this outdoor season where the Shippensburg, Pa. native earned her first First-Team All-American at NCAA Outdoor Championships. During the indoor season, Nye would set two championship records in the mile and 3000-meter at MAC Championships. Nye went on to be named MAC Runner of the Year while picking up two first-team all-conference selections. While at NCAA Championships, Nye took 13th in the prelims of the mile after running a 4:53.24 which earned Second-Team All-American. Nye's outdoor season continued to show success with a new Widener record in the steeplechase at Penn Relays (10:19.58) and another pair of first-team all-conference selections in the 1500-meter and 5000-meter. At NCAA Championships, Nye took fourth in the 5000-meter (16:32.77) and fourth in the steeplechase (10:26.86), both earning All-American. The season's successes continued as she was garnered NCAA Elite Scholar Athlete and MAC Senior Scholar Athlete.
