Nye Downs Championship Record Alongside Two Individual Wins at MAC Championships

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Widener Women's Track and Field place six on the All-Conference team after placing sixth at MAC Championships at Messiah.
 
The Pride took sixth place with 72 team points after three days of competition.

DAY 1 – THURSDAY (14 Total Points | T-7th Place)
 
The Pride began the three-day meet with Allyson Hakes, Amber Wilsey, Erin O'Brien, and Gabby Nye placing seventh in the 4x800-meter relay. The four clocked a 10:16.34.
 
Kathryn Long took third in the 10,000-meter after her 38:12.87. Sarah Paulin clocked a 42:45.51.
 
Amanda Simpson cleared 2.65-meters in the pole vault.
 
Isabel Rodgriez placed fifth with a 46.48-meter hammer throw. Jillian Walker marked a 41.15-meter distance.
 
DAY 2 – FRIDAY (30 Total Points | 7th Place)
 
Zahara Simmons, Ziraya Snowden, Jayla Gore, and Tirzah Simmons took seventh in the 4x100-meter relay prelims after a 49.86.
 
Z. Simmons snuck into finals in the 100-meter hurdles after her 15.87. Sydni Bell saw a 16.99.
 
Veronica Ashcraft led the Pride in the 400-meter after a 1:02.91. Alyssa Kolimaga clocked a 1:03.20 and Hakes saw a 1:04.31.
 
Snowden qualified for Saturday finals in the 100-meter with a final time of 12.70. Gore clocked a 13.04.
 
Katelyn Fox just missed finals in the 400-meter hurdles. Fox would run in a 1:11.56.
 
Snowden wrapped up her track day in the 200-meter to place eighth with a time of 26.45.
 
In the field, T. Simmons snagged a bronze in the long jump after a 5.29-meter distance. Mia Flemming's 5.26-meter jump placed her fifth overall.
 
Aisosa Washington took fourth in the discus with a 35.50-meter distance on her fifth attempt. Rodriguez picked up a point with a 33.93-meter mark.
 
DAY 3 – SATURDAY (72 Total Points | 6th Place)
 
In the finals of the 4x100-meter, Z. Simmons, Snowden, Jayla Gore, and T. Simmons placed seventh with a 49.82.
 
Nye opened her individual day with a gold in the 1500-meter. Nye clocked a 4:37.28 to win by four seconds. Loralei Golembiewski took eighth with a 4:51.87.
 
Z. Simmons placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles finals after sprinting to a 15.94.
 
Snowden took fifth in the 100-meter with a time of 12.97. In the finals of the 200-meter, Snowden clocked a 26.55 to place seventh.
 
Nye wrapped up her individual afternoon in the 5000-meter with a 16:57.86 for a new championship record. Golembiewski saw an 18:00.86 while Long finished with an 18:03.23.
 
Ashcraft, Kolimaga, Hakes, and Fox ended the track portion with a 4:16.20 4x400-meter relay.
 
Heron Gaudet threw a 10.78-meter shot put.
 
Flemming's 11.43-meter triple jump placed her second overall.
 
UP NEXT
Widener returns to competition on Monday, May 11 at the Widener Final Qualifier in Chester, Pa.
