A Trip to Maryland Favors Stevenson in Men's Lacrosse Conference Contest

OWINGS MILLS, Pa. – Widener Men's Lacrosse return to Chester with a tough loss to Stevenson.
 
The 25-7 loss moves the Pride to 2-9 in the regular season and 0-2 in conference contests.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Samuel Haverstrom led the Pride with four goals and an assist.
  • Seven would see a forced turnover.
  • Rowan Coverdale would win five faceoffs.
  • In the cage, Colyn Schmitz registered a career high 21 saves.
  • The Pride held 25 shots, go 17-of-27 in clears, and 0-of-1 in extra man opportunities.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride opened the 60 minute contest on the offensive. Haverstrom scored the first goal of each side off a Liam Reilly pass in. The Mustangs would answer with two quick goals before Aiden Jackson forced a turnover. Schmitz registered a forced turnover to give a goal transition and a Haverstrom goal off a long ball from Schmitz. The score was tied 2-2 with 10:20 left. Aiden Jackson gave the Pride a lead off an Eli Warfel pass with 8:10 left before the Mustangs answered with two goal. Nicholas Knepp would score an unassisted goal to tie the game at four with 3:28 left while the quarter ended with the Pride down 6-5 after a Haverstrom goal.
     
  • The attacking Pride continued with a Schmitz save and a Haverstrom goal this time from Sean Alminde. The Mustang offense would find a rhythm and while the defense began to command the field with four goals to force a Pride timeout with 6:32 left. Alminde broke the Mustang run with a goal from Haverstrom to make the score 12-7 to head to half.
     
  • Out of half, the Mustangs offense continued to hold the Pride. On defense Schmitz would try and hold the attacking Mustangs. The Mustangs controlled the third quarter with eight unanswered goals to head to the final 15.
     
  • With 15 minutes to play, the Pride continued to dig in. Aiden Jackson won a faceoff with 13:51 left before the Mustangs forced a turnover. Miles Brant would try and hold the Mustangs with a forced turnover to give Alminde a shot. The Mustangs would score their 24th goal to force a Pride timeout. In the final five minutes, Jackson, Ashton Amend, Knepp, Haverstrom, and Nolan Schemmer would send shots that would fall wide. The final showed a 25-7 final.
UP NEXT
Widener returns to Quick Stadium on Saturday, April 11 for a 1 p.m. contest against the 11-1 (2-0 MAC Commonwealth) No. 8 York Spartans. Senior day celebration will commence prior to faceoff.
