Men’s Lacrosse Falls on Senior Day to No. 8 York

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Men's Lacrosse honor 14 while Samuel Haverstrom marks 100 career goals in a loss to No. 8 York.
 
The 22-6 loss moves the Pride to 2-10 in the regular season and 0-3 in conference play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Before the 60 minute contest, the Pride honored 14 seniors on senior day. The Spartans would open their offense fast with a goal at 14:20. Schmitz registered two saves before the Spartans tack on two more. Horgan saw the sole shot in the first as the quarter ended 8-0 in favor of York.
     
  • Rowan Coverdale snagged a faceoff win early in the second while Schmitz registered another save. Knepp would put the Pride on the board with a man-up goal with a Matthew Marino assist. The Pride offense continued to come alive with more shots flying from Luke Cichetti, Sean Alminde, and Knepp. A behind the cage pass to Haverstrom from Knepp would register his 100th career goal with 5:00 left in the second. The quarter ended with the Spartans up 13-2.
     
  • With 30 left to play, the Pride would continue with Schmitz saves. Haverstrom picked up his second goal this time from a Marino pass in to make the score 15-3. The Spartan offense would answer with three goals before the Pride forced a clock violation to end the third down 19-3.
     
  • Nolan Schemmer would rattle the post to open the fourth. Horgan scored first for the Pride in the fourth quarter with a Knepp pass. Knepp scored an unassisted goal with 5:27 left to push the score to 21-5. Evan Townsend forced a turnover late before Knepp picked up his second unassisted goal to and the game 22-6.

Widener heads to Reading, Pa. for a 7 p.m. matchup against the 3-10 (0-4 MAC Commonwealth) Albright Lions.
